UpMail is a small SaaS business that builds email tools for Hotels. We are fully remote, focussed on engineering simplicity and good product design, and we are default-alive.

Much of our hiring process is open, with transparent salaries and process.

We hire for high-autonomy, product-minded people. We currently have 1 role open: UX designer.

Benefits

What does UpMail do?

We build email tools for hotels. Our customers use UpMail to improve large bookings (weddings, conferences) or to automate their day-to-day communications. We’re default-alive, with high growth over the last year, and continuing to scale our platform to support this growth.

On the product & design side: this means we have to understand a wide range of specific b2b-style workflows, and distill those needs into small, well designed product iterations.

On the engineering side: this involves things like data ingestion, content management, automation, authoring tools.

Overall we have a varied mix of interesting problems, with a product-first approach to solving them. We cross-collaborate extensively, there are no “dev only” developers, and no designers who aren’t also deeply aware of our technology and it’s tradeoffs.

This is all in support of our product goal: iterate towards the next generation of content tooling.

Application process

(Note: this page was last written when we focussing on engineering hiring. We’ve recently opened a design role though haven’t yet had time to rework this to explain our design-specific culture. Hopefully you can see a little of our ethos from this information anyway)

Please read the job role carefully, and also read our Design Career Framework carefully.

You’ll notice that raw coding skills are prioritised below things like “Pragmatism”, “Communication” and “Technical Design”. Design skills like “Service Design” and “UX research” are more important than UI and branding.

This should give you a sense of how we operate.
